Unveiling Some Secrets of Exceptional Public Speaking as You Move Through the Nerves

Updated: May 2

If you're like most people, you know the nerve-wracking feeling that comes with standing in front of a crowd and delivering a speech. But fear not, because I'm here to share with you some of my top secrets for taking your public speaking skills to the next level and exuding confidence like never before.

First and foremost, preparation is key. The more prepared you are, the less nervous you'll feel. Practice your speech multiple times, not just to memorize the content, but also to get comfortable with the flow and pacing. Rehearse in front of a mirror or record yourself to identify any areas that need improvement.

Next, remember to breathe. Deep breathing techniques can help calm your nerves and regulate your heartbeat. Take a few deep breaths before you step on stage, and continue to breathe slowly and steadily throughout your speech. I remember one time during COVID, I was speaking at an online event and I got so nervous my lips started shivering. To this day I have no idea why that happened. Thankfully it was before I opened the camera. I started praying and taking deep breathes and the shivering stopped. I'm not sure I was a proponent of breathing techniques before that. But that day made a believer out of me, that's for sure.

Another thing is having confidence, because confidence is all about mindset. Believe in yourself and your abilities. Visualize yourself delivering a successful speech with poise and charisma as you stay committed to the vision God gave you. Positive thinking can go a long way in boosting your self-confidence. Confidence is also body language. Stand tall, make eye contact with your audience, and use gestures to emphasize your points. Engaging body language not only makes you appear more confident, but it also helps to captivate your audience.

Finally, remember that it's okay to make mistakes. Nobody is perfect, and even the best public speakers stumble from time to time. If you slip up, take a deep breath, compose yourself, and continue on. Your audience is more forgiving than you think.

By implementing these secrets into your public speaking routine, you'll be well on your way to exuding confidence and taking your skills to the next level. So step onto that stage with your head held high, and watch as your audience hangs on your every word. You've got this!
